The e-version of “Chinese Cultural Readings” provide texts related to 20 reputable Chinese historical personages. The texts have been arranged according to the historical timeline. Each text includes an animation, an English summary and the Chinese source text. In addition, a Cantonese recording of the source text, comprehension exercise, activities for extended learning and so on are also provided to encourage NCS students to read and self-study according to their Chinese standard.
Learning about Chinese cultures
“Chinese Cultural Readings” is a theme-based teaching material which centers around the life stories of remarkable historical personage and emphasizes on their character, conduct, achievement and historical position. Through learning about the development of Chinese cultures and the traditional concepts of Chinese people, NCS students will be able to enhance their ability to understand and read Chinese in daily life.
Activities for Extended Learning
The e-version of “Chinese Cultural Readings” provides a great variety of assessment activities in addition to the original text. Its purpose to encourage students to apply what they have learned in their daily lives and to understand that traditional concepts remain relevant in today’s society.
Chinese Cultural Readings” has taken the complexity of words and sentences into account and make adjustment accordingly so that S1-S6 NCS students will be able to read and understand the texts. In case of indispensable jargons, an English explanation will be provided to facilitate students’ understanding,
Learning a second language
All texts have English summary. Through a combined medium of voice and words, Students can first get a brief idea from the summary before reading the text wherever necessary, then read and listen to the Chinese text.Moreover, Cantonese romanization is provided for the entire text so that students can practice on their pronunciation.
